Privacy policy
In short: everything you save in Formalist stays on your own device. Formalist has no servers and no accounts. It sends nothing anywhere, and nobody else, including us, can see your data.
What Formalist is
Formalist is a browser extension that fills web forms with answers you saved in it. This policy covers the extension and this website.
What you save, and where it is kept
Formalist keeps only what you give it:
- Your fields and their values, for example name, email, phone number, address, date of birth, links, a cover letter, and any field you add yourself.
- Your profiles, if you use more than one set of answers.
- Site rules, when you tell Formalist which saved field belongs in a box on a site. A rule keeps the site's address, the box's name on that page, and the box's label.
- Your settings, including the list of sites where you turned Formalist off.
All of this is kept in your browser's local storage for extensions, on your device only. It is not synced to other devices and not sent to us or to anyone else.
What Formalist reads on web pages
To find forms, Formalist looks at the form fields on the pages you open: their labels, names and types. It uses this only to decide which of your saved fields fit, and to show a small Fill badge in those fields. It does not record the pages you visit or what you type on them, and it keeps nothing from a page, except when you create a site rule, as described above.
Formalist writes into a form only when you ask it to: when you click Fill in the extension, or a badge in a field. It never submits a form for you. It skips password fields.
You can turn Formalist off everywhere, or only on the sites you choose, in its settings.
What Formalist sends
Nothing. Formalist makes no network requests. It has no analytics, no tracking, no ads, and no third-party code. It does not sell, share or transfer your data, because it never has it.
Backups
You can export your data to a file, and import it again. Export saves the file on your own computer, and import reads a file you pick. Nothing goes over the network. The backup file is not encrypted, so keep it somewhere safe.
Security
Your data is protected by your device and your browser profile, like the rest of your browser data. Formalist does not add its own encryption. Anyone who can use your browser profile can open Formalist and see what you saved, so do not store anything there you would not want someone with your browser to see.
Deleting your data
You can delete any value, field, profile or site rule in the extension at any time. Removing the extension from your browser deletes everything it saved.
This website
This website sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and loads nothing from other sites. Our host, Netlify, may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses, to run and protect the service.
Children
Formalist is not directed at children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be on this page with a new date at the top. If a future feature ever sends data off your device, such as sync between devices, it will be optional, and this policy will say exactly what is sent before it ships.
